Cheng Noted for Solid Contributions in Kitchen/Bath Industry
BERKELEY, CA, March 7, 2006 — In tribute to the industry leaders and legends over the past 50 years, Kitchen and Bath Business (K+BB) honored Fu-Tung Cheng — alongside such industry notables as Philippe Stark, HGTV, Home Depot, Architectural Digest, and Martha Stewart — as one of the top 50 influences in the kitchen and bath industry.
Cheng, founder of Cheng Design in Berkeley, CA, is an award-winning designer renowned for his innovative use of mixed materials (like concrete, zinc, and bamboo) in his kitchen, bath, and home design. He is author of bestseller Concrete Countertops and Concrete at Home.
Credited by K+BB for elevating concrete to a “highbrow, high-end phenomenon”, Cheng explains: “I use it because it recognizes one of those primary emotions”. He adds: “It has an appeal as something of substance in today’s veneer culture. Concrete is a material I can manipulate, [in which] I can find expression.”
As a designer, contractor, craftsman, artist, author, entrepreneur, innovator, instructor, and speaker, Cheng’s contributions to the kitchen and bath industry tirelessly span over 25 years. In addition to his design services, Cheng’s innovation extend into kitchen and bath products, which include Geocrete™ custom concrete countertops, NeoMix concrete countertop mix products, Cheng Custom Hoods, and the first signature hood line in the industry, Cheng Design by Zephyr.
